Matching your Utility Bill in our Explorer Web Application

The first thing most of our customers do when logging into Genability Explorer for the first time is try to reproduce a utility bill. They take either their bill from home or one their customer’s bills and check that Genability returns the right answer. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
Here’s the 4 easy steps to reproducing a bill (to follow the links, you will have to be logged in to Explorer):
1.** Find the Tariff** - You can find the tariff either by searching for the Electric Provider or directly for the Tariff using the zip code. Either way you arrive at a list of tariffs for that utility/zip code. You can further narrow your list by adding additional arguments or you can search for the tariff code that is usually displayed prominently on the bill.
Once you find the tariff, navigate to the Calculate tab.
2.Enter the Date Range - It’s important to specify the date range of the bill exactly, as the dates can make a big difference in what you pay. Pretty straight forward.

Enter Your kWh - On the Calculate tab you can enter a single kWh number. If you’re tariff has time-of-use rates, we will make a decision about how to split the kWh value you entered into the time-of-use periods to produce an approximate bill. If this approximation is not good enough, you can always upload or enter a usage profile.

Enter Your kW and other Tariff-specific Options (if applicable) - Often tariffs have rates that vary according to the specific aspects of the customer usage. For example, the customer charge maybe $5 for customers with a 3-phase connection and $6 for customers with a three-phase connection. Demand, reactive demand, number of billing meters all appear in the Tariff-Specific Option section.
Then press calculate and view the results. We always make sure to enter the most granular view of the tariff, so in some cases you may see more detail in our bill than you get from your local utility. The one thing we may be missing is tax. Whenever the tax status of the tariff is inlcuded in the state’s utility commission findings, we include that in our rates. However in most cases, tax rates are specific to the customer’s local municipality so we won’t have that in our rates.
